Child Help
What happens when an organization is committed to improving the quality of life for children with spina bifida and hydrocephalus in developing countries, while at the same time seeking to revamp its funding model? Child-Help faced this challenge and sought outside help. They found the right partners in S&L—a team that not only listens and understands, but also provides structure and can develop a customized fundraising strategy for the organization.
The customer
Child-Help strives to improve the quality of life for children with spina bifida (a congenital condition in which the spine does not fully close) and hydrocephalus (a condition characterized by an excess of fluid in the brain) in developing countries through early detection and lifelong care, so that these children can grow up to become full-fledged citizens. To achieve this, they raise funds in Europe to support their cost-effective model in collaboration with local partners.
The question
Child-Help faced the challenge of renewing its supporter base while retaining its existing supporters. With a large operating budget, it sought to diversify its revenue streams, independent of its external funding sources.
Together with S&L, Child-Help conducted an in-depth target audience analysis to identify both existing donors and potential new target audiences. By using personas as a guide, the organization gained valuable insights that will enable it to act strategically.
The impact
The collaboration resulted in a strategic plan for the three countries where Child-Help raises funds—Belgium, Germany, and the Netherlands. The new plan ensures that staff are deployed optimally, and the profile for new hires is clear. The organization received clear guidance and a detailed communication and fundraising plan, with sufficient support to ensure its implementation.
The challenge
Child-Help faced the challenge of adapting to changing circumstances throughout the process. This required a two-pronged approach: addressing current challenges immediately while simultaneously building an organization flexible enough to withstand future shocks. S&L’s approach was characterized by understanding and a determination to preserve Child-Help’s original passion and conviction, while simultaneously focusing on greater specialization and a new structure.
The collaboration
Child-Help and S&L joined forces based on shared values. Both parties shared a passion for Child-Help’s mission and worked with mutual respect and a commitment to fostering a sense of community. This collaboration was enriching for both organizations.
