Interim management

Sometimes your organisation reaches a point where carrying on as usual is no longer possible.

A director is unexpectedly absent. A co-ordinator leaves. A team becomes stuck. A merger, restructuring or strategic shift calls for more leadership capacity than is available internally. Or you may temporarily lack expertise in finance, HR, fundraising, policy, communications or organisational development.

At a moment like this, you do not need a lengthy advisory report. You need someone who can step in quickly, take responsibility and help your organisation move forward.

S&L brings temporary leadership, organisational capacity and specialist expertise on board. We help you maintain continuity, make difficult situations manageable and emerge stronger from the transition.

At S&L, we combine sector knowledge, management experience and organisational insight. Our interim managers step in quickly, work independently and report clearly to the relevant stakeholders. They make decisions, take responsibility and leave your organisation stronger than they found it. Every interim manager is backed by a wider team they can draw on when needed for specialist expertise, a sounding board and targeted support.

Tell us your situation.

Types of interim management

Leadership is suddenly unavailable
A co-ordinator or director is unexpectedly absent or leaves the organisation. Suddenly, there is no one to make key decisions or set direction. S&L temporarily takes the helm, ensuring that your organisation not only keeps moving, but is already preparing for its next step.

The team becomes stuck
The atmosphere has changed. Frustrations remain unspoken, roles are unclear, and meetings drag on—or are avoided altogether. S&L restores structure and psychological safety through difficult conversations, clear agreements and rebuilding trust.

A transition is under way
A merger, growth, restructuring or a new governance model: everyone recognises the need, but no one has the capacity to drive it forward. S&L maintains momentum and bridges the gap between strategy and implementation.

Essential expertise is missing
IYou lack sufficient financial insight at a critical moment. Your HR lead leaves just as four vacancies need to be filled. A funding application needs to be completed, but no one has the capacity to manage it. Some expertise may be needed only temporarily—or on an ongoing basis, but for just one day a week.

Not every organisation needs a full-time CFO or HR manager. Nor can every organisation develop and support that expertise in-house. S&L brings in the right expertise from day one, while ensuring that your organisation can continue independently once our work is done.

How do we work?

We always start by listening—to your question, your context and your organisation. We then develop an approach tailored to your needs. In practice, we join your organisation for one, two or three days a week and work alongside you.

Where needed, we combine this with group sessions in which we explore specific needs in depth with your team. Our model is flexible: we adjust our support as your needs evolve.

We report clearly to the relevant stakeholders and always build on the strengths already present in your organisation, complementing them with our external expertise.
