Is your organization also reaching its limits? power to influence policy effectively ? Do you feel like you are too far away from the people you do it for ? You find it difficult to do so mobilize enough people for your actions? Should you combine a staff team under pressure with a dwindling or aging membership and/or volunteer base ? Makes it difficult political climate are all these challenges many times greater? You are not alone!
You will discover strong recipes to meet these challenges when you register here for this online training course on “recruiting organization”.
You will receive concrete tools to:
- Strengthen the bond with your supporters (supporters, members, volunteers).
- Organize and mobilize those supporters more effectively
- Significantly increase your number of members and/or volunteers
- Convert the potential power of your supporters into effective pressure on policymakers or other actors
Many organizations struggle with the questions above. One of the most powerful recipes that aims to tackle all these challenges at once is an updated form of what is often described as “organizing”. Sometimes described in Dutch as “recruiting organizing”, “movement work” or “construction work”.
Organizations worldwide are (again) embracing these methods strong results . Just ask the people of KC Tenants, a militant tenants' union in Kansas City that in five years from 0 to 10,000 members went. Or take a look at the militants of the Dutch trade union FNV who organized and... dramatically improved employment conditions in a stunner of a campaign.
Since these types of campaigns and the organizing techniques used are still little known in Belgium, despite the many success stories, we are happy to bring them to you!
Who is the training for?
- A community, movement or volunteer employee who wants to get more people moving together
- A campaign worker who wants to do more than just work on awareness and wants to mobilize supporters for the next action
- A policy officer who sees a strong, visible support base as a lever to exert greater influence on policy
- A director, board member or manager looking for inspiration to strategically strengthen the organization, starting from the people you do it for

You're welcome on your own, but we encourage you as a duo or trio from an organization to this training series to participate . This increases the success of the strategic translation to your organization. Especially if you each participate with a different hat on (read: from a different role). For additional participants we therefore also provide one from the same organization discount . If you want to participate with more than three, contact Jeroen to see whether a formula tailored to your organization would not be more beneficial.
The formation series consists of five sessions of one and a half hours online , one hour of individual sparring that helps you to implement the insights in your own organization and a concise one syllabus that will help you on your way. The syllabus consists of a selection of written and audiovisual material that deepens the themes from the accompanying lesson. The training series and exercises are in Dutch, but some of the additional syllabus material is in English. Passive knowledge of English is therefore an added value, but you can also translate most material yourself with free online tools.
In addition to participating in the sessions, a time commitment of one hour per week is recommended to work on the syllabus and homework. We ask you to commit to participating live in the sessions, because every session we do an exercise in break-out groups.
Structure of training
Session 1: From “mobilizing” to “organizing” and back ( monday September 14 from 13.00-3pm)
We zoom in on how to broaden your support base and build strategic power with them. We discuss why it is important not only to mobilize those supporters, but first to organize them effectively. Organizing thus becomes a lever for powerful future mobilizations.
Session 2: Building a Wider and Stronger “We” ( monday September 21 from 1-3 p. m.)
Starting from your target group, you will receive tools to broaden your support base, connect with you and deepen relationships with members/volunteers.
Session 3: From members to volunteers, from volunteers to initiators ( monday October 5 from 1-3 p. m.)
Stronger organizations not only have leaders at the top, but focus on developing shared leadership from the bottom up. We consider the steps to activate passive supporters step by step.
Session 4: Organizing in a Digital World: Tools and Tips ( monday October 12 from 1-3 p. m.)
We map out how to integrate online and offline methods to achieve the best results when you want to get your supporters moving and keep them involved.
Between 4 the and 5 the session we provide one hour of personal guidance per participating organization. In this hour we explore what you need to do to optimally integrate the insights from the course into your operations. If you come to the training series as a duo or trio, this conversation will be scheduled together with you.
Session 5: Sustainable anchoring of recruitment organization in your organization (return moment) ( monday November 16th from 1-3 p. m.)
We share first experiences with applying organizing methods and principles in our organizations, discuss challenges and address the questions we encounter along the way.
