Capital for a Better World

Everyone knows that money can make things happen. Yet we still see too few examples of how, when used wisely, it can help build a better world. But what does using it wisely actually mean? That is a question Peter is keen to tackle.

The client

Trividend is a dedicated impact investor. It provides venture capital to enterprises that put impact first.

The question

Investing money in a better future—that is music to our ears. And it is exactly what Trividend does.

Trividend plays a crucial role in the ecosystem of impact-driven enterprises, many of which are also the kind of organisations S&L supports. Our clients are our heroes, so we were delighted that this partnership allowed us to strengthen these enterprises and amplify the valuable work they do.

The process and its impact

To maximise its impact, Trividend needed above all to reach the right impact entrepreneurs. But how? Trividend brought that strategic question to us in 2019, and together we developed a clear and focused strategy. We were both delighted with the results and with the way we worked together.

Our understanding of Trividend’s ambitions and way of working, combined with our knowledge of its clients, led to the second phase of our partnership: developing the ImpacT² programme. This approach helps Trividend’s clients examine their strategic focus and intended impact. Drawing on our experience, we hold up a mirror, helping them strengthen their strategy and sharpen their focus on impact.

The success of the programme took us from supplier to long-term partner, united by a clear goal: maximising the impact of every euro invested. It also creates clear value for Trividend. By bringing the individual ImpacT² frameworks together in its annual impact report, Trividend can make the impact of its entire portfolio visible.

20 Years of Trividend
“It was a new and exciting approach, and the feedback from Trividend’s clients was very positive. Through the guidance, impact measurement and reporting, we can see that our support is making a real difference. It doesn’t get much better than that!

Tips from Frederik Matthijs

  • Going through an ImpacT² process together matters at least as much as the indicators it produces.
  • Involve your co-founders and your board or advisory board—and ideally your entire team. After all, this impact exercise touches on the very DNA of your enterprise.
  • Indicators are not set in stone. They should evolve over time, reflecting changes in the context and how close you are to achieving your mission.
“Our clients appreciate being invited to step back from the pressures of day-to-day work and sharpen their mission and the social impact they want to achieve.
